Chances are your loans were sold to another lender while you were in school. Even though you should have received a notice about this in the mail, you may not know who your current lenders are. You will need to know each of your lenders when you consolidate student loans. If you cannot find this information, don’t worry, there are a few ways to find it by researching the Internet and asking your current lender to find the information for you. Consolidate student loans during your grace period. During this time, you will be able to locate all of the information needed for consolidation. Your lenders should have sent you a balance sheet that has an amount of the loan or loans, their name, and when your first payment is due.

 

If you did not receive any paperwork, you will have to find out the names of your lenders before you consolidate student loans. You can visit the National Student Loan Database System and look up your information or you can call the lender you will be consolidating your loans with and they should be able to find your information. Once the information has been found, you will be able to consolidate your student loans.
